U.S. President Trump stated on Monday local time that due to the war in Iran leading to rising crude oil prices, ExxonMobil (XOM.N) and Chevron (CVX.N) have earned excessive profits. "They made too much money based on supply shortages," Trump told reporters at the White House. "I don't like that." ExxonMobil and Chevron reported substantial profits for the second quarter last Friday. Chevron's profit surged nearly 400% to $12 billion, up from $2.5 billion in the same period last year. ExxonMobil's profit more than doubled from $7.1 billion last year to $14.5 billion. "Chevron is making too much money. ExxonMobil is making too much money," Trump said. "They should return some of that to the public, and they better lower retail prices, which is what consumers pay."
