Historic Intervention Reports say the U.S. government sold euros to buy yen on Friday.
Reports indicate that the U.S. Treasury implemented intervention in the yen exchange market on Friday, marking the first time in nearly 30 years that Tokyo and Washington have collaborated to support the Japanese currency through direct purchases of yen. The report cited three insiders who said that the New York Federal Reserve took the unusual step on behalf of the U.S. Treasuryselling euros to buy yen. Two of the insiders revealed to the publication that the transactions were executed by Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. The New York Fed and Goldman Sachs declined to comment.
