Emerging market stocks surged on Friday, recording the largest single-day gain in nearly twenty years, narrowing the monthly decline and bringing a tumultuous week to a close; the South Korean benchmark index skyrocketed to a historic high. The MSCI Emerging Markets Index jumped 6.6%, marking its best single-day performance since 2008, with July's losses reduced to 3.3%. Florian Illmer, head of macro at Longo Investment Management, stated, After several weeks of corrections, Asian tech stock positions have been partially cleared, so this round of rebound seems mainly to be short covering. Goldman Sachs strategists, including Sunil Koul, noted that Fridays rebound aligns with their optimistic outlook on certain segments of AI infrastructure, where profit growth remains strong. However, they also cautioned that market volatility may persist, stating, Leveraged positions have fallen from their highs, but havent been completely cleared out yet.
