Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs: will continue to focus on comprehensive regulation of pig production capacity and guide supply and demand to be more compatible.
According to the Securities Times APP, on July 24th, the State Council Information Office held a press conference on the agricultural and rural economic situation in the first half of 2026. Chen Bangxun, director of the Development Planning Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said that with the gradual implementation of various measures, the supply and demand relationship in the pig market began to improve at the end of June, prices fluctuated and rose, and losses in pig farming decreased. By the end of the second quarter, the national inventory of sows had been reduced to 37.8 million, a decrease of 2.63 million compared to last year, and a decrease of 1.81 million compared to the end of 2025. The pace of pig slaughter has slowed down, and the supply and demand situation continues to improve. However, it is worth noting that the current supply in the pig market is still generally sufficient, and the strong supply and weak demand situation has not fundamentally changed. We will continue to regulate the overall capacity of pig production, issue warnings through multiple channels, guide supply and demand to be more compatible, and we also hope that farmers will closely observe changes in the supply and demand situation, arrange production reasonably, and work together to stabilize the rising trend of pig prices and avoid drastic fluctuations.
