On July 21st, Li Difan, Vice President of the China-EU Chamber of Commerce, met with a delegation from the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee led by McAllister. Li Difan introduced the major economic trends affecting European businesses operating in China. In recent years, factors such as the real estate crisis, lack of consumer confidence, and strong policy guidance to drive growth through production have led to significant supply-demand imbalances, causing unsustainable competition domestically and a sharp increase in exports. As a result of these trends, the business confidence of European companies has fallen to historic lows, but there are signs of bottoming out and recovery, thanks to the structural adjustments made by the companies to address the situation. Li Difan stated that despite the ongoing challenges, China remains an important market for European businesses due to its innovation capabilities, industrial ecology, and procurement advantages. He also presented a series of recommendations to EU policy makers, including implementing measures to protect critical strategic industries in Europe, enhancing Europe's own competitiveness, and continuing communication and exchanges with China. Subsequently, the two sides conducted exchanges, discussions, and Q&A sessions.
