Two departments deployed to carry out centralized cleaning and rectification of illegal and harmful information on flood and disaster accidents during the flood season.

According to the Cyberspace Administration of China, in order to further regulate the release of disaster and accident information during the flood season, prevent illegal and harmful information from misleading the public and disrupting rescue operations, the Cyberspace Administration of China and the Ministry of Emergency Management recently issued a joint notice to deploy a nationwide crackdown on illegal and harmful information related to disaster and accidents during the flood season, focusing on five key issues. The five key issues include: fraudulent editing and malicious manipulation, recycling old news and historical grafting, exaggeration and fabrication of data, fabrication of dangerous situations and impersonating authorities, and technical forgery and fraud. This includes fabricating and inventing disaster situations, deliberately exaggerating casualty numbers, number of houses destroyed, economic losses, etc., or manipulating disaster levels, fabricating secondary disasters, and disrupting rescue operations; using official institution and mainstream media names or logos, forging official document formats, and publishing false notices; using AI generation, editing, and staging scenes to create disaster images or videos, fabricating accident scenes, rescue details, etc. The notice requires local cyberspace administrations to focus on typical problems of illegal and harmful information related to disaster and accidents, and conduct comprehensive inspections, supervise website platforms to fulfill their responsibilities, and improve content review and account management mechanisms. Local emergency management departments should strengthen coordination and ensure that the clean-up and rectification work produces tangible results.
