The area of fires in the Brazilian Amazon in 2025 dropped to the lowest in 40 years.

The annual report released on the 21st by the Brazilian satellite image analysis agency's "Biomass Map" project shows that by 2025, the area of burned land in the Amazon rainforest region within Brazil has dropped to the lowest level in 40 years. According to the report, last year, approximately 3.1 million hectares of land in the Amazon region were affected by fires, a decrease of about 80% from 2024, and the smallest area of burned land observed in the past 40 years. Wildfire situation all over Brazil has also eased, with a total burned area of 12.7 million hectares nationwide, a significant decrease from over 30 million hectares the previous year, and the lowest since 2018.
