The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs organizes the implementation of the "strong field management, disaster prevention, and autumn harvest" action.
Journalists learned on the 17th from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs that the Ministry has decided to organize and implement a 100-day action to strengthen field management, resist disasters, and ensure a bountiful autumn harvest of grains. The country is currently in the main flood season of "downpours in July and heatwaves in August," which is a high-risk period for agricultural disasters and a critical period for the formation of autumn grain yields. According to the meteorological department's forecast, the national main flood season will be characterized by above-average temperatures, drought and floods occurring simultaneously, a high number of strong typhoons making landfall, and clear instances of regional and stage-specific drought and flooding disasters. At the same time, major crop diseases and pests are showing a trend of heavy occurrence, posing risks and challenges to achieving a bountiful autumn harvest of grain.
It was explained that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will focus on key crops, key regions, and major disaster situations, organizing working groups and technology teams to go to the front line to carry out activities such as on-site guidance, technical training, and observation and exchange. They will implement scientific fertilization, water-saving irrigation, foliar spraying, and other field management and yield-enhancing measures specific to different crops, regions, and stages; closely monitor and implement disaster prevention and reduction measures such as clearing ditches and loosening soil, controlling pests and diseases, and using multiple measures for disaster prevention in the face of heavy rainfall and flooding, high temperatures, droughts, and typhoons; and focus on major crop diseases and pests such as the two migratory pests of rice, rice blast disease, corn borers and southern rust, soybean pod borers and root rot disease, carrying out integrated prevention and control, joint prevention and control, and emergency prevention and control to minimize disaster losses.
