A chemical transport ship was hijacked by pirates in the Gulf of Aden.
Aden News: A Yemeni coast guard official said on the 17th that a Tanzanian-flagged chemical tanker, the "Asanaa," was hijacked by Somali pirates while sailing in the waters of the Gulf of Aden. The official, who declined to be named, told Xinhua reporters that the "Asanaa" was sailing in the waters of the Gulf of Aden near the eastern coast of Mukalla, Yemen at the time. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Office earlier issued a statement on social media saying that the agency had received reports of a ship being "boarded by unauthorized individuals" while crossing the Gulf of Aden about 65 nautical miles south of the port city of Mukalla in Yemen. Authorities are currently investigating. Recently, there has been ongoing tension in the security situation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, with commercial ships repeatedly facing attacks and attempts by unauthorized individuals to board.
