With car subsidies and high fuel prices prompting European consumers to abandon popular fuel models like the T-Cross, Volkswagen is expanding its line of economical electric cars by introducing a compact SUV. The new model, ID. Cross, has a starting price of about 28,000 euros (approximately $32,000) and will further enrich Volkswagen's lineup of economical city electric cars. This series is increasingly competing with models such as BYD's Dolphin series. Volkswagen announced on Wednesday that pre-orders for the model are now open, but sales of versions equipped with smaller batteries will start later. The ID. Cross will offer a pure electric driving experience at a lower price point compared to Volkswagen's new models Polo, Cupra Raval, and Skoda Epiq. All models will be produced in Spain, where production costs are significantly lower than at Volkswagen's headquarters in Germany.
