Nokia (NOK.N) announced on Wednesday that the company, in collaboration with Nvidia (NVDA.O), has developed the world's first commercial artificial intelligence-driven wireless access network (RAN) platform, which can significantly enhance the data transmission capabilities of telecommunications operators under current infrastructure conditions. The new platform, according to Nokia, will enable telecommunications operators to achieve a doubling of data transmission capacity in the same wireless spectrum resources by 2028. After the hardware is officially supplied to operators next year, spectrum utilization efficiency is expected to increase by 50%. The platform includes three new hardware products and a set of software components, and will also help "extend artificial intelligence to the physical world". Through software upgrades, the platform will be compatible with the yet-to-be-established 6G standard in the future and comply with the Open RAN standard for open wireless access networks, allowing it to operate in coordination with equipment from other manufacturers.
