Cuba experiences another national blackout within a week.
The Cuban Electric Power Union issued a statement on the 10th saying that at 4:30 PM local time that day, the Cuban electricity system was completely paralyzed. This is the second nationwide power outage in Cuba in a week. Earlier, on the 6th, the Cuban Electric Power Union announced on social media that the Cuban electricity system had experienced a complete blackout. On the 8th, the union stated that the provinces were reconnected to the national electricity system in the early morning, and national power supply was restored. Due to the impact of US sanctions, Cuba has long struggled to import fuel and equipment needed to repair severely aging power plants, leading to a tense national power supply. Since October 2024, Cuba has experienced several nationwide power outages due to faults in power facilities and attacks by hurricanes.
