SK Hynix CEO: Memory chip shortage may continue beyond 2030.
SK Hynix CEO Luke Guo stated that the current shortage of memory chips affecting the computer, automotive, and equipment markets could last until after 2030. Guo said that customers are signing long-term contracts because they "believe the shortage will continue for longer." The company, along with its competitors - Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology, have become major beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence boom. The significant spending by data center operators has driven demand for traditional memory as well as a new type of high-bandwidth memory. This buying frenzy has made it more difficult to meet the widespread demand for storage chips, leading to shortages in areas such as computers, smartphones, and automobiles. Guo stated that SK Hynix's analysis indicates that this shortage could last for the next decade. Customer signals also suggest that people expect to be unable to obtain enough storage chips for the foreseeable future.
