US Commerce Secretary Lutnick has called on Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to increase their efforts to expand semiconductor production in the United States to help alleviate the global shortage of key components for artificial intelligence development. Lutnick confirmed that he is in talks with these two South Korean semiconductor manufacturers but did not disclose specific details. He acknowledged that Micron CEO Mehrotra may not welcome competitors expanding their presence in the United States, but Lutnick stated that it is necessary to take this measure in order to make the US chip supply chain more stable. "You know he (Mehrotra) won't like this, but I hope to bring his competitors - Samsung and SK Hynix - to the United States to establish factories," Lutnick said. "Micron is currently in a leading position. Other companies are bound to feel jealous, right? So they also have to catch up."
