Ukrainian drones have struck two oil tankers in southern Russia. Currently, Ukrainian authorities are expanding their attack range to target ships transporting fuel to the region amidst a nationwide gasoline shortage in Russia. The governor of Rostov Oblast, Yuri Slyusar, said on Thursday that the tankers were hit in the Taganrog Bay and suffered "mechanical damage," with both catching fire, though one fire has been extinguished. In recent weeks, Ukraine has significantly increased its attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. In addition to oil tankers, refineries have also become targets in an effort to weaken Russia's fuel production capacity and pressure the Kremlin to negotiate. These attacks have caused several major refineries to shut down, exacerbating the nationwide gasoline shortage. In response, Russia has banned nearly all exports of gasoline, aviation fuel, and diesel to prioritize domestic supply. Previously, Ukrainian forces had launched attacks on several small oil tankers in the Azov Sea heading towards Crimea in an attempt to cut off fuel supplies to the Russian-occupied peninsula. Ukrainian officials also reported attacks on several ships in the Black Sea.
