Most officials in the earthquake-stricken area of Venezuela have died.

On the evening of July 2nd local time, Venezuela's acting president Rodriguez held a press conference, saying that Venezuela immediately activated its emergency system after the earthquake and search and rescue efforts are still ongoing. According to Rodriguez, almost all officials in the severely affected state of La Guaira were killed in the earthquake.
