The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office holds a regular press conference. A journalist asked, recently, the chairman of the Taiwan Affairs Office, Qiu Chui-zheng, said in an interview that the consistent policy of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities is to "maintain the status quo." At the current stage, there is no "Taiwan independence" issue in cross-strait relations, only the issue of "forced reunification by the mainland." What is your comment on this? Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian responded by saying that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China, which is the true status quo of the Taiwan Strait. The DPP authorities define the status quo of the Taiwan Strait with the "two-state theory," which completely violates legal principles, history, and reality, and is a blatant "Taiwan independence" separatist fallacy. Their actions of promoting "independence," provoking anti-China sentiments in the island, escalating cross-strait confrontation, and undermining cross-strait relations make them the disruptors of the Taiwan Strait status quo and the root cause of tension and chaos in the Taiwan Strait situation. Zhu Fenglian stated that "Taiwan independence" and peace in the Taiwan Strait are incompatible, going against the mainstream public opinion in Taiwan. If the DPP truly believes there is no "Taiwan independence" issue, then they should immediately abandon the party platform of "Taiwan independence," cease separatist activities, recognize the "1992 Consensus" that embodies the principle of one China, and improve cross-strait relations through practical actions.
