On July 2nd, BHP has submitted an environmental impact study to Chile to apply for the restart of the Cerro Colorado copper mining project in the northern part of the country, planning to invest $1.5 billion to extend the operational life of the mine by another 20 years. The mine's environmental permit is set to expire in 2023, leading to the cessation of operations. Currently, it has been granted temporary shutdown status until 2028 while awaiting approval.
