A report from the American employment data company "Challenger" shows that US employers announced 45,849 layoffs in June, a 53% decrease from 97,006 in May. The technology industry had the highest number of layoffs, with 15,503 employees being laid off in June, an 83% increase from the same period last year. However, total layoffs last month were still 4% lower than the same period last year, marking the lowest monthly total since December 2025. Andy Challenger, Chief Revenue Officer of "Challenger," said: "The pace of layoffs in June significantly slowed down, similar to the situation in June last year, which is also in line with the typical characteristics of summer months." The report found that artificial intelligence was the main reason for the layoffs, with 14,029 people being laid off for this reason. While major technology companies are investing billions of dollars in building AI infrastructure, they are also incorporating AI factors into their restructuring plans.
