Korean media The Bell reported on the 26th local time that Samsung Electronics is speeding up the development of the 1.4nm (SF1.4) process node. The advanced process was originally planned for mass production in 2027, but due to a shift in focus on wafer foundry business, the mass production timeline has been delayed to 2029. The report pointed out that Samsung Electronics has recently shared the SF1.4 process scheme with major semiconductor equipment companies such as Applied Materials and Lam Research, hoping to accelerate the development of the most suitable equipment combination for this node through collaboration with upstream and downstream partners, including customized versions of standard equipment. Samsung Electronics has already introduced the High NA EUV lithography equipment from ASML, which is deployed at the NRD-K semiconductor research and development complex. For Samsung Electronics, it is expected that the High NA EUV lithography machine will be used for production at the SF1.4 node at the earliest.
