Currently, the 2026 college entrance exam scores are being released across the country, and students are entering the time to fill out their college preferences. In the wave of artificial intelligence, what issues should be paid attention to when using AI to assist in filling out preferences? With AI driving adjustments in university majors, should students prioritize choosing new majors with the word "intelligence" in them? Against the backdrop of the rapid development of industries such as AI, is it still worth studying basic subjects? Recently, several experts and scholars shared their views on these hot topics of public concern. Regarding the use of AI to assist in filling out preferences, Xiong Zhang, a professor at Beihang University and a member of the Academic Committee of the Chinese Society of Education, pointed out that AI is an auxiliary tool, and the scientific way of filling preferences should be AI screening first, with the final review by the students and parents themselves. Regarding whether to prioritize choosing new majors with the word "intelligence" in them, Wei Huafeng, associate professor at the Institute of Education Science at Hunan University, believes that the decision of whether a new major is worth considering should not only be based on whether the name contains words like "intelligence," "digital," or "artificial intelligence," but also on whether the university has the corresponding academic foundation, faculty, and curriculum system. Students should also consider their own interests, strengths, and career development plans when choosing a major. In addition, several experts emphasize that basic subjects are still important in the AI era. Song Tian, Dean of the School of Education at Beijing Institute of Technology and Secretary General of the Intelligent Education Research Branch of the Chinese Higher Education Society, believes that basic subjects are the "source of living water" that AI cannot generate autonomously. Basic subjects can forge a "talent highland" that AI cannot replace, and the stronger AI becomes, the more important basic subjects are.
