The Federal Reserve's Kashkari: Inflation on the rise across the board, the Federal Reserve may need to raise interest rates.
Neil Kashkari, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, stated that various inflation indicators are generally rising, prompting him to include a rate hike for this year in the economic forecast released earlier this month by the Federal Reserve. Kashkari said in an interview, "I am concerned about the inflation situation. Inflation is not only influenced by the situation in the Middle East, but the overall economy is showing broad inflationary pressures." Inflation showed signs of cooling earlier this year, but prices have rebounded significantly in the past three months. The conflict in Iran has pushed up oil prices, while prices of various goods and services have also risen. This has led some Federal Reserve officials to become increasingly worried: inflation is spreading more widely and persistently, and the central bank may need to implement stronger regulatory measures.
