Japan Air Self-Defense Force transforms into the Aerospace Self-Defense Force.

Today, the amendment of the "Defense Ministry Establishment Act" including the conversion of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force into the "Aerospace Self-Defense Force" was passed in the plenary session of the Japanese House of Councillors. The amended "Defense Ministry Establishment Act" explicitly states that the "space domain is designated as a new operational domain" and stipulates the renaming of the Air Self-Defense Force to the "Aerospace Self-Defense Force." The Japanese "Aerospace Self-Defense Force" is expected to be officially established within this fiscal year, and a new specialized force responsible for space domain tasks, the "Space Operations Group," will be formed. This is the first adjustment to the organizational name of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force since its establishment in 1954.
