On June 23rd, at the flood season safety knowledge release conference "Everyone Talks about Safety, Everyone Knows Emergency Response" held by the Ministry of Emergency Management, the spokesperson and director of the news and publicity department of the Ministry of Emergency Management, Shen Zhanli, introduced that according to predictions, during the main flood season this year, the northern regions will see more rainfall and face a greater risk of flood disasters. Shen Zhanli stated that in recent years, there has been a significant increase in extreme weather events that break previous patterns and exceed traditional knowledge. Particularly in the northern regions of China, the number of heavy rainfall events in the past 5 years has been 50% more than the average in the 1990s, and the overall intensity of heavy rainfall events during the same period has been 50% stronger than usual. Flood prevention in the northern regions has shifted from the previous strategy of "more preparation, less action" to the current state of "constant challenges". According to predictions, during the main flood season this year, China will still experience a high number of extreme weather and climate events, with both droughts and floods occurring simultaneously. The characteristics of two distinct rain belts, one in the north and one in the south, will be evident, and heavy floods may occur in the Haihe River, Songliao River, Pearl River, upstream Yangtze River, and downstream Yellow River. There may also be an above-average number of strong typhoons making landfall. The northern regions are predicted to have more rainfall and face a greater risk of flood disasters. As the rain belt moves westward and northward, there may be a transition from floods to droughts in some southern regions, making the flood prevention and drought resistance situation severe and complex.
