Supreme Procuratorate: In 2025, 24 people aged 12 to 14 who committed serious violent crimes will be prosecuted
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of juvenile prosecution work in our country. Today, the Supreme People's Procuratorate released a report on the 40-year development of juvenile prosecution work. The report shows that the juvenile prosecution work mechanism in our country is more sound, the system is more perfect, and the punishment and assistance to juvenile offenders is more precise. For juvenile offenders with subjectively malicious intent, serious criminal nature, cruel methods, and severe consequences, they are resolutely punished according to law. Since 2018, procuratorial organs have prosecuted a total of 349,000 people. By 2025, the Supreme People's Procuratorate will approve the prosecution of 24 serious violent crimes committed by minors aged 12 to under 14 years old. For juvenile offenders with less serious crimes and less social harm, leniency is applied in accordance with the law, suspending prosecution for 144,000 people, and over 95% of juvenile offenders do not reoffend. In the past five years, over 7,100 juvenile offenders have been educated and admitted to universities through the help of procuratorial organs.
