In the early hours of the 18th, a gold robbery occurred at Hong Kong International Airport involving 6 gold bars, with a total value of approximately 7 million Hong Kong dollars. On the 20th, Hong Kong police held a press conference announcing that they had arrested 4 men and 3 women, aged between 20 and 39, all local residents of Hong Kong, some with connections to the criminal underworld. According to Hong Kong police, at 12:23 am on the 18th, a 36-year-old local man from Hong Kong who was employed by a mainland businessman was ambushed by three masked men with knives at a parking lot in the airport, and the 6 gold bars were stolen as he was transporting them from Indonesia. The robbers then fled in a waiting vehicle after successfully stealing the gold bars. Hong Kong police believe that this was not a random robbery but a premeditated crime, indicating the possibility of an insider tip-off or involvement of acquaintances. The police have found the getaway vehicle and the weapons used in the robbery, but the gold bars have yet to be recovered. Some of the suspects are believed to have fled to the mainland, and Hong Kong police are seeking assistance from mainland law enforcement agencies, not ruling out further arrests.
