According to the information obtained from the Wise Finance and Economics APP, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority released statistics on the issuance of payment cards in Hong Kong in the first quarter of 2026. According to the quarterly statistics, the total number of credit cards in circulation in the market at the end of the first quarter of 2026 was 29.18 million, an increase of 7.0% from the previous quarter and 33.4% year-on-year. In the first quarter of 2026, the total number of credit card transactions was 384.94 million, a decrease of 2.3% from the previous quarter and an increase of 15.8% year-on-year. The total credit card transaction amount in the first quarter of 2026 was 311.3 billion Hong Kong dollars, a decrease of 0.1% from the previous quarter and an increase of 13.6% year-on-year. Out of the total transaction amount, 211.5 billion Hong Kong dollars (67.9%) were spent on consumption in Hong Kong, 90.3 billion Hong Kong dollars (29.0%) were spent on overseas consumption, and 9.5 billion Hong Kong dollars (3.1%) were spent on cash loans.
