The Prime Minister of Italy called on the European Union to send a special envoy to contact Russia regarding the crisis in Ukraine.
Italian Prime Minister Meloni called on the European Union to appoint a special envoy to contact Russia regarding the crisis in Ukraine on the 17th. Meloni said at a press conference after the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France that the envoy should not come from the EU's largest member states. She stated that it is crucial to find a representative voice for the EU, as too many diplomatic channels within Europe could cause confusion when contacting Russia. The G7 summit took place from the 15th to the 17th in Evian-les-Bains. The G7 consists of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and Japan. France is the rotating chair of the G7 this year.
