On June 15th, local time, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Trk, stated that in the first five months of this year, over 1000 Sudanese civilians have been killed in drone attacks. Trk made the remarks at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council, emphasizing that with the ongoing expansion and escalation of armed conflicts in Sudan, the use of armed drones on the battlefield has significantly increased, resulting in high civilian casualties. According to the records of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, more than 1000 civilians have died in drone attacks from January to May 2026. On April 15, 2023, armed conflicts broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital city of Khartoum, spreading to other regions thereafter. Data from the "Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project," which monitors global conflicts, shows that Sudan's ongoing armed conflict for over three years has resulted in at least 59,000 deaths.
