South Korea concrete delivery suspended, Samsung and SK Hynix chip plants construction affected
Truck drivers responsible for transporting concrete in South Korea went on strike, sparking concerns about possible delays in the expansion projects of two large semiconductor factories, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The National Ready-Mixed Concrete Transport Workers' Union of Korea began suspending concrete transport in the Seoul metropolitan area from Monday. The union stated that about 8,000 members are involved in the strike, demanding an increase in transport fees and other adjustments. Union members participating in the strike also blocked the supply of concrete from two concrete plants in Pyeongtaek on Thursday, resulting in the suspension of concrete pouring at Samsung Electronics' chip factory. Industry sources reported that the concrete pouring project at SK Hynix's Icheon chip factory has also been suspended due to the cancellation of concrete supply. SK Hynix stated in a statement that, due to the company adjusting construction sequences, short-term impacts are expected to be limited. Samsung declined to comment.
