South Korea fines Coupang a record 624.6 billion won for data breach.
South Korea will impose a 625 billion won fine on the e-commerce giant Coupang, because the company had a large-scale customer information leak incident last year and illegally collected personal information. This is the largest penalty imposed by South Korea for corporate data breach issues. The South Korean Personal Information Protection Commission stated that the company, which is listed in New York, leaked personal data of over 33 million customers and failed to discover the leak within the legally required 72 hours. It is calculated that the fine amount is equivalent to 1.4% of Coupang's 4.5 trillion won revenue last year.
