On June 8th local time, North Korean Workers' Party General Secretary and State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong Un held a grand welcome ceremony for Chinese Communist Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang at noon. The main square was adorned with huge portraits of the top leaders of the two parties and countries, with banners in both Chinese and Korean that read "Everlasting friendship between Korea and China" and "Long live the unbreakable friendship and unity between Korea and China" standing out prominently. The flags of both countries were waving in the wind, and the welcoming crowds were in high spirits, eagerly anticipating the arrival. When Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, arrived, they were greeted by a cavalry parade and a military band playing welcoming music. Kim Jong Un and his wife, Ri Sol Ju, welcomed them at the square. The couples shook hands with each other's entourage. The highest leaders of the two parties and countries then ascended the reviewing stand together, and the military band played the national anthems of both China and North Korea, followed by a 21-gun salute. Accompanied by Kim Jong Un, Xi Jinping reviewed the three armed forces of the Korean People's Army and the soldiers shouted in Korean "Best wishes for Comrade Xi Jinping's good health." Later, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un watched the parade together. People from all walks of life in Pyongyang and children dressed in festive attire, holding flags, flowers, and balloons, shouted slogans of friendship between China and North Korea, expressing their warmest welcome to the visiting Chinese guests with applause and cheers. Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un walked along the red carpet, waving and greeting the welcoming crowd and children. At the end of the welcome ceremony, colorful balloons with bilingual welcome banners in Chinese and Korean were released into the sky at the square. Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan then traveled to the Kumsusan Guest House, while Kim Jong Un and Ri Sol Ju personally escorted them. Along the way, from the airport to Kim Il Sung Square and from Kim Il Sung Square to the Kumsusan Guest House, the North Korean people spontaneously lined the roads to wave and welcome Xi Jinping's visit. Cai Qi, Wang Yi, and others also attended the event.
