Report: Trump unable to force Iran to make concessions, shifts anger towards Gulf allies.
According to reports, two years ago, Trump's family business announced that its $500 million luxury hotel and golf resort built in partnership in Oman would elevate the Gulf state's position as a "top global tourist destination." Fast forward to last week, U.S. President Trump threatened to bomb Oman. Initially, some in Oman thought Trump misspoke and meant Iran. But then the U.S. State Department released a video in which Trump warned Oman "to act like other countries, or else he would have to bomb them." This was due to his suspicion that Oman was supporting Iran in charging tolls for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts point out that this threat also reflects Trump's frustration at failing to compel Iran to reopen this crucial waterway, leading him to direct his anger towards regional allies. Amir Hoekim of the International Institute for Strategic Studies said, "In order to find and announce any strategic victories in the Iran war issue, Trump is pressuring countries he believes 'owe him a favor,' such as Saudi Arabia; or pressuring countries he views as hindering his actions, such as Oman." "If Iran cannot bring him a victory, the Gulf states should give him a victory. This reflects his frustration with the whole situation and demonstrates how much he is ignoring the interests of these countries."
