OpenAI veteran "Employee 002" switches to join Anthropic
Clive Chan, the "002nd employee" of the OpenAI self-developed chip project, announced on the X platform that he has left OpenAI and officially joined Anthropic this week. This news quickly sparked widespread attention in the industry, seen as another signal that the competition in the AI field is extending from models and products to chips and computational infrastructure. Chan's impressive resume includes working or interning at several prominent companies such as OpenAI, Tesla, Google, and SpaceX, focusing on AI infrastructure for a long time. He graduated from the University of Waterloo in Canada in 2021 and joined the Tesla Autopilot deep learning infrastructure team after graduation, where he was responsible for GPU optimization, cluster scheduling, data center software, and training infrastructure for nearly three years. In January 2024, Chan officially joined OpenAI as a member of the technical team, participating in the construction of the self-developed AI chip project.
