The Chief Operating Officer of Southwest Airlines stated that the VIP room is the most mature concept in their new product development, but there is still no timeline for implementation. He revealed that the Boeing 737 MAX 7 is expected to enter commercial operations in 2027, six months after certification. He also admitted that the criticism from activist investor Elliott Management Corporation about the slow pace of change at Southwest Airlines is valid. In terms of interest rates, he believes that higher rates benefit Southwest Airlines because their competitors have more debt. Southwest Airlines aims to have 300 aircraft equipped with Starlink internet by the end of the year, but progress depends on Starlink's production capacity. Additionally, the airline is seriously studying the VIP room, transoceanic flights, and more premium seat configurations. Management stated that assigned seat arrangements have eliminated a major barrier for customers who were previously unwilling to fly with Southwest Airlines, and the airline has not ruled out the possibility of introducing Amazon's near-earth orbit Wi-Fi in addition to Starlink.
