The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds to Western media's report on the AI competition between China and the United States.
On June 5th, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maoning presided over a regular press conference. A reporter asked, "We have noticed that in recent times, Western media have the view that the global AI competition has entered a 'US-China rivalry,' which may exacerbate the technological camp confrontation. At the same time, Chinese and American technology companies have recently launched multiple cooperation projects in the field of general large model robots, and many industry insiders are calling for the two countries to cooperate in the field of AI. How does China view the above trends?" Maoning stated that artificial intelligence is profoundly changing the way of production and life, and it is a new issue that all humanity needs to face together. Artificial intelligence is not the patent of any country, and should not slide into competitive confrontation. China has always insisted on putting people first and being open and inclusive in the field of artificial intelligence. We have put forward a global initiative for artificial intelligence governance, held the World Artificial Intelligence Conference for 8 consecutive years, proposed the establishment of a World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. The core is to build an open, equal, fair, non-discriminatory environment for the development of artificial intelligence through dialogue to reach consensus and deepen cooperation. In July of this year, China will host the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-Level Meeting on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence in Shanghai. We look forward to using this conference as an opportunity to engage in in-depth exchanges and dialogues with all parties, strengthen global governance of artificial intelligence, and promote artificial intelligence to serve all of humanity.
