El Nio brings expectations of abundant rainfall, and southern hydropower companies welcome a prosperous market.
Recently, the National Climate Center confirmed that the equatorial central and eastern Pacific entered an El Nio state in May. Experts predict that there is a high probability of it evolving into a medium to strong event in the summer and autumn, leading to increased chances of drought in the north and flooding in the south of China. Expectations of abundant water resources are expected to significantly differentiate the performance of the hydropower sector within the year, with some listed companies already reporting improved first quarter electricity generation data. Several securities firms predict that the southern hydropower sector has good investment value, as the high temperatures in the north will boost summer thermal power generation and demand for coal.
