Industry insiders: Apple is considering adopting LG Display's new panel technology.
LG Display is developing a thin film transistor backplane technology called High Mobility Oxide, which will be applied to the sixth generation small and medium-sized OLED panels. As Apple is considering HMO as a candidate material for the next generation low-power backplane to replace low-temperature polycrystalline oxide TFT, LG Display has started to validate this technology. Industry insiders in South Korea speculate that LG Display's HMO technology may mainly be used in OLED displays for devices such as the Apple Watch. In addition, Apple is not inclined to exclusive supply, but rather prefers a dual-channel or triple-channel supply strategy.
