The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, led a delegation of business representatives to arrive in the Kazakh capital of Astana last night, officially commencing their visit to Central Asia. The delegation consists of 40 representatives from Hong Kong's commerce and professional sectors and 30 representatives from mainland Chinese enterprises, making it the largest and most diverse delegation organized by the current SAR government, and the second joint initiative between Hong Kong and mainland representatives to venture overseas. Carrie Lam stated that there is vast potential for cooperation between Hong Kong and Central Asia, with plans to sign multiple cooperation memoranda. Public and private institutions and enterprises from Hong Kong, mainland China, and Central Asia are expected to reach numerous collaboration agreements. She hopes that this visit will strengthen exchange and cooperation between Hong Kong and Central Asia in various fields, establish new trade channels, and explore opportunities in emerging markets.
