Representatives of several political parties and organizations including the Taiwan Labor Party, the Taiwan Social Welfare Alliance, and the Cross-Strait Peace Development Forum held a rally in front of Taiwan's legislature on the 27th to protest the Democratic Progressive Party's continued pursuit of "leaning on the United States for independence" and "resisting reunification by force", opposing arms purchases from the United States, and calling for strengthened cross-strait dialogue and the sharing of peace dividends. The legislature held a joint meeting this week to review the so-called "special defense budget" previously passed by the executive branch of Taiwan, which includes a budget of nearly 300 billion New Taiwan dollars for arms purchases from the United States. Rally participants displayed banners on site calling for "peace, people's livelihoods, and stopping arms purchases", and chanted slogans such as "Taiwan independence has no future" and "reconciliation across the strait, sharing the dividends of peace". Despite the high temperature of 38 degrees Celsius in Taipei that day, they bravely expressed their anger and demands.
