Alibaba's salary adjustment, combining the thirteenth salary with the year-end bonus.
On May 27th, Alibaba released an important company-wide announcement: Starting from the 27th fiscal year, the original thirteenth month salary will return to its essence as the "Shoulder-to-Shoulder Annual Award" and will be distributed together with the annual performance bonus for each fiscal year. It is reported that the original thirteenth month salary was typically distributed between December and January each year, but after being combined with the year-end bonus, the distribution time will be postponed to April or May.
The original text is as follows: To all colleagues, following careful consideration by the company: starting from the 27th fiscal year, the original thirteenth month salary will return to its essence as the "Shoulder-to-Shoulder Annual Award" and will be distributed together with the annual performance bonus for each fiscal year. The year-end bonus will consist of two parts - the "Shoulder-to-Shoulder Annual Award" and the "Performance Annual Award," which will be listed separately. The "Shoulder-to-Shoulder Annual Award" is a fixed annual bonus equivalent to one month of basic salary, and is related to the time of service in the current fiscal year. Any dismissal during the year will result in the cancellation of the bonus qualification. Please refer to the "Annual Bonus System" and related FAQs for specific policies. This adjustment applies to regular employees working in mainland China, and policies in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and overseas regions will be subject to local laws and regulations or company policies. Considering that the original thirteenth month salary is based on the calendar year while the annual bonus is based on the fiscal year, the first "Shoulder-to-Shoulder Annual Award" will be distributed in the award month of 2027. Employees who were in service from January 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027 will receive a 1.25 month "Shoulder-to-Shoulder Annual Award" to ensure a seamless transition.
