SpaceX awarded $2 billion contract to manufacture satellites for the US Space Force.
The United States Space Force awarded SpaceX a new high-value satellite contract on Tuesday, further deepening the company's relationship with its largest customer. The rocket and satellite company won a fixed-price contract worth $2.29 billion to participate in the US Space Force's "Space Data Network Backbone" project. The project is a large-scale deployment of near-Earth orbit constellations, potentially consisting of hundreds or even thousands of satellites, aimed at providing high-speed communication for the Pentagon. According to the contract requirements, SpaceX must provide a fully operational prototype to the US Space Force by the end of next year. The contract amount represents approximately 18% of the Space and Missile Systems Center's $15.6 billion space procurement budget.
