Reporters learned from a symposium on the service guarantee for the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt held in Yibin, Sichuan on May 20 that the Supreme People's Procuratorate has decided to carry out special supervision on public interest litigation for the prevention and control of water pollution in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from May 2026 to April 2027. The Supreme People's Procuratorate has proposed that procuratorial organs in the Yangtze River Economic Belt should focus on local actual conditions and carry out special supervision work focusing on key areas and prominent issues in water pollution prevention and control. The key areas of special supervision include pollution issues in livestock, poultry, and aquaculture in the field of agricultural farming, industrial water pollution and domestic sewage pollution in the field of urban wastewater discharge, non-compliance with legal requirements and mandatory standards in the site selection of tailings in the tailings management field, and illegal dumping, stacking, landfilling, and emissions of solid waste disposal areas. The Supreme People's Procuratorate requires that attention be paid to the protection and governance of key lakes such as Taihu, Chaohu, Honghu, and Dianchi, as well as issues related to the protection of water sources in the Danjiangkou Reservoir area and the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, and that public interest litigation by procuratorial organs help promote systematic governance.
