The Swedish government announced the selection of a French defense company to manufacture Sweden's new generation of patrol ships.

On May 19th local time, the Swedish government held a press conference on a military procurement plan. Swedish Defense Minister Pl Jonson announced at the press conference that Sweden will choose the French naval group as the supplier for the future new generation of Lule-class frigates for the Swedish armed forces. Pl Jonson also stated that it is expected to order a total of 4 Lule-class frigates, with each frigate costing approximately 10 billion Swedish Krona, and the first vessel is expected to be delivered in 2030. According to Sweden's defense plan for the fiscal years 2025 to 2030 released in March 2025, Sweden's defense budget for 2025 is around $13.7 billion, a 10% increase compared to previous years, with an additional $16.864 billion to be invested in defense construction over the next 5 years. By 2028, the country's defense spending as a percentage of GDP will reach 2.6%.
