According to sources, British chip design company Arm is facing an antitrust investigation by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), with a focus on its semiconductor technology licensing business. The FTC is investigating whether Arm is refusing to provide or lowering the quality of CPU design blueprints while increasing its own chip development efforts. Previous reports indicated that regulatory agencies outside the US, driven by Qualcomm, are also investigating Arm's business practices. In 2024, Qualcomm filed a complaint with the European Commission claiming that Arm was attempting to restrict licensing and withhold key technology. Last year, the South Korean competition regulator conducted a surprise inspection at Arm's office in Seoul.
