Yokohama Port in Japan recently launched a pilot experiment to set up a floating data center at sea to cope with the increasing demand brought by the popularization of generative artificial intelligence and cloud services, testing whether it can rely on solar energy to provide all the power. According to Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, which is participating in the experiment, this is the world's first floating data center operating 100% on renewable energy. NTT Facilities, Yokohama City Government, and others are also participating, planning to test its tolerance to sea wave sway and seawater salinity over a year.
