It was learned from the Yangtze River Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters on the 8th that in some periods during the flood season this year, there may be both droughts and floods in the Yangtze River Basin. According to the latest forecast from the Yangtze River Basin Meteorological Center, in 2026, during the flood season in the Yangtze River Basin, there will be both droughts and floods, with more severe droughts than floods in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and frequent severe convective weather. The overall precipitation during the main flood season is expected to be less. In terms of spatial distribution, the Jinsha River, Min River, Jialing River, lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin, etc., will have 10-20% more precipitation, while the main stream of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River will have 20-40% less precipitation. In terms of time evolution, there will be a period of concentrated rainfall in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River from late June to early July. After mid-July, with the northward movement of the subtropical high pressure, rainfall in the Min River and Jialing River basins will increase, and there will be a phase of high temperature weather in the eastern part of the Sichuan Basin to the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. The impact of typhoons will increase during peak summer. The Yangtze River Commission requires relevant departments and units in the basin to firmly follow the concept of "life first, safety first", focus on preparing for low-probability events, emphasize both short-term and long-term measures, combine targeted measures with systemic ones, and improve the scientific, foresight, effectiveness, and efficiency of water and drought disaster prevention. At the same time, it is necessary to deeply understand the importance, complexity, and challenges of water and drought disaster prevention work, tighten flood control and drought relief responsibilities, thoroughly investigate and remedy hidden risks, adhere to the principle of prevention and treatment of droughts and floods, and decisively fight the initiative in the flood control and drought relief work in the Yangtze River Basin this year.
