According to the data center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, during the "May Day" holiday in 2026, there were 325 million domestic trips nationwide, an increase of 3.6% compared to the previous year; the total expenditure on domestic trips was 185.492 billion yuan, an increase of 2.9% compared to the previous year. The supply of tourism products is abundant and a variety of businesses are thriving. Tourist attractions, resorts, leisure streets, and cultural institutions have a large number of visitors, with high popularity in attractions such as the Forbidden City in Beijing, Shanghai Disneyland, Confucius Temple in Nanjing, West Lake in Hangzhou, and Chimelong in Guangzhou. Cultural centers and public libraries across the country organized a total of 49,400 cultural activities benefiting around 88 million people. Nighttime cultural and tourism consumption is active, with the total nighttime visitor flow in national-level nighttime cultural and tourism consumption aggregation zones reaching 80.4137 million, an increase of 6.44% compared to the previous year. There are diverse experiential scenes and an upgrading of consumption structure, with traditional cultural projects being transformed into immersive experiences, attracting tourists with intangible cultural heritage, folk customs, and festivals. Technology empowers cultural and tourism experiences, with activities such as car factories, trendy cultural and creative exhibitions, and AI exhibitions becoming new hotspots. Concerts, music festivals, and sports events are driving cultural and tourism consumption, with a total of 32,000 commercial performances held nationwide, generating box office revenues of 2.476 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.66%. Implementing measures to benefit the people and stimulate consumption, activities such as the "May Day" cultural and tourism consumption week and the "5.19 China Tourism Day" thematic month were carried out. Approximately 13,700 cultural and tourism consumption events were organized nationwide, with over 284 million yuan in consumption vouchers distributed, and measures such as ticket discounts and joint ticket offers were implemented. Beijing, Hunan, and Shaanxi, among other regions, continue to improve measures to facilitate entry for foreign visitors and enhance the overall experience for inbound tourists.
