The chief trade negotiator of the European Union will meet with the U.S. trade representative in Paris on Tuesday, before President Trump announced an increase in tariffs on European cars. A spokesperson for the European Commission said on Monday that EU trade commissioner Maro efovi will meet with U.S. trade representative James Grewer during the G7 meeting. Trump announced last Friday that he would raise tariffs on European car imports from 15% to 25%, citing that the EU did not fully comply with the trade agreement reached with the U.S. last year. The EU is currently finalizing related legislative negotiations and plans to further lower tariffs on U.S. goods. After Trump's statement, the European Commission responded on Wednesday, stating that they are implementing the EU-US trade agreement through the necessary procedures and will keep the U.S. government informed throughout the process.
