Hundreds of artificial intelligence researchers under Alphabet's Google (GOOG.O) signed a letter urging Alphabet's CEO Sundar Pichai to refuse to use the company's AI systems for classified work on U.S. defense tasks. "We, as Google employees, are deeply concerned about the negotiations between Google and the U.S. Department of Defense," the statement wrote. The letter was issued amid legal disputes between the Pentagon and the company Anthropic regarding the use of artificial intelligence in military applications.
